About Artist

Shammi Bannu Sharma

Shammi Bannu Sharma ji is a seventh-generation miniature painting artist from Jaipur, Rajasthan. His forefathers were official painters of Maharaja Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. His expertise has been acknowledged by the Indian government, and he received the National Award in 2014. Shammi Banu Sharma ji is an acclaimed Pichwai artist as well. Keeping the authenticity of the art forms he works with, Shammi Ji sticks to using natural colours and has worked tirelessly on obtaining the exact shades out of the minerals he uses. It is said that it took him eighteen years to make the accurate ultramarine blue out of lapis lazuli. Shammi Bannu Sharma ji is the son of the late Vedpal Sharma Bannu ji, who is considered to be India's most celebrated miniature painting artist. Shammi Ji explains that his father never really sat him down to give him lessons on painting techniques. It was only by observation and experimenting himself that he could master the traditional art form. He believes in working on creating themes and compositions in his miniature artworks.
